Graduate Students

I am interested in accepting students who would like to contribute towards our understanding of disease ecology, herpetology, and conservation biology. Strong candidates have experience in ecological research (lab and or field work), and demonstrate a motivation to excel. San Francisco State University (SFSU) does not have a PhD program, so all graduate students in my lab are at the Master’s level. In my lab, graduate students complete the master's of science program in biology in Integrative Biology or Physiology & Behavioral Biology. Within Integrative Biology most of my students are in the on Ecology, Evolution and Conservation concentration. For more information please see:

Master's of Science in Biology: Integrative Biology

Master's of Science in Biology: Physiology and Behavioral Biology

Additional scholarships

For more information including additional graduate school materials: SFSU Biology Graduate Programs.

Master’s students that join the Vredenburg Lab must agree to the Vredenburg Lab Research Student Compact.

Why get a master’s degree?

If you are wondering what you can do with a master’s degree in Integrative Biology or similar field, take a look at advice on professional development by Vredenburg Lab master’s alum: Dr. Tina Cheng.

Undergraduates

We have many undergraduate research opportunities in the lab and are happy to talk with any interested students. You can get in touch with Vance Vredenburg, or any other member of the lab. Undergraduates should also search the SFSU Scholarship Webpage using filters “biology” and “College of Science and Engineering” for fellowship opportunities for undergraduates.
